The Art of Choosing Yourself
By Lulu 💋
Here's something nobody tells you when you're growing up.
You become really good at choosing everyone else.
You answer messages even when you're exhausted.
You keep plans you secretly want to cancel.
You say "I'm fine" because it's easier than explaining how you actually feel.
And somewhere along the way, you forget to ask yourself one simple question.
What do I need right now?
Choosing yourself isn't selfish.
It's making coffee and actually sitting down to drink it while it's still hot.
It's buying flowers without waiting for someone else to surprise you.
It's changing into soft pajamas before the day is completely over.
It's saying no without writing a three-paragraph apology.
It's turning your phone upside down and giving yourself ten quiet minutes.
Little things.
Until one day you realize those little things changed the way you feel about yourself.
"The relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for everything else in your life."
There is no perfect self-care routine.
Some people meditate.
Some people run five miles.
Some people spend an hour in the bath reading a novel they already know by heart.
And some days self-care looks like ordering your favorite takeout and going to bed early.
There are no rules.
The goal isn't to become a better version of yourself every single day.
The goal is to feel a little more like yourself than you did yesterday.
Slow down long enough to notice.
Notice how your shoulders finally relax after a deep breath.
Notice the sunlight on the floor.
Notice the first sip of coffee.
The clean sheets.
The candle you finally decided to light.
The song that always makes you smile.
Life isn't only made of big moments.
It's built from tiny rituals we repeat over and over again.
Confidence starts in quiet moments.
Not when someone compliments you.
Not when you reach a goal.
Not when everything is finally perfect.
Real confidence grows every time you listen to yourself instead of outside expectations.
Every time you choose comfort instead of guilt.
Every time you give yourself permission to rest, explore, laugh, slow down, or simply exist without trying to earn it.
Choosing yourself isn't a luxury.
It's the beginning of every healthy relationship—including the one you have with yourself.
A little note from Lulu 💋
You don't need permission to rest.
You don't need permission to say no.
You don't need permission to enjoy beautiful things, quiet evenings, soft blankets, long showers, or moments that belong only to you.
Choose yourself a little more often.
You might be surprised how much everything else starts to feel lighter.
